1 Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest
1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the virtual meeting of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
1.2 In accordance with Standing Order 34.19, the Chair stated that she had determined that the public were excluded from the Committee’s meeting in order to protect public health.
1.3 The Chair stated that if for any reason she dropped out of the meeting, the Committee agreed that Dawn Bowden MS would become Temporary Chair in accordance with Standing Order 17.22.
1.4 The Chair noted apologies from Hefin David MS. Jayne Bryant MS substituted.
2 COVID-19: Evidence session on the impact of COVID-19 on the physical and mental health of children and young people - with nursing, paediatric and general practitioner representatives
2.1 The Committee heard evidence from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Heath, the Royal College of Nursing and the Royal College of General Practitioners.
2.2 The Royal College of Nursing agreed to
provide a note on whether all families were receiving their
schedule of visits as per the Healthy Child Wales programme.
3 Motion under Standing Order 17.42 (ix) to resolve to exclude the public from the meeting for Item 4 of today's meeting
3.1 The motion was agreed.
4 COVID-19: Consideration of evidence
4.1 The Committee considered the evidence it
heard in the previous session.
5 COVID-19: Evidence session on the impact of COVID-19 on the physical and mental health of children and young people with third sector representatives
5.1 The Committee heard evidence from Mind
Cymru, Papyrus, Samaritans Cymru and Meic Cymru.
6 Motion under Standing Order 17.42(ix) to resolve to exclude the public from the meeting for item 7 of today's meeting
6.1 The motion was agreed.

8.1 The Committee heard evidence from the
Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Applied Psychologists in Health
National Specialist Advisory Group and the British Psychological
Society.

12 Committee's approach to forthcoming legislation
12.1 The Committee considered it’s approach to forthcoming legislation.
12.2 The Committee:
· agreed an in principle approach to Stage 1 scrutiny of the Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill, subject to its introduction before the summer recess;
· noted the Welsh Government’s statement of 9 June 2020 indicating that the Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Bill will be published as a Draft Bill and its introduction postponed; and
· agreed to write to the Welsh Government to request an update on the timescales for the implementation of the next stages of Additional Learning Needs reforms, and an indication of whether the Welsh Government will be publishing a response to the points raised in last year’s consultation on the Draft ALN Code in advance of laying the final version before the Senedd.
